How I made a social media campaign

For My favorite Author

In just 30 days I learned how to create a social media campaign for my favorite author. It was exciting yet challenging. I plan to make similar campaigns for other brands as well as my own.

Where to begin

The first step to creating a solid social media campaign is to create a landing page. The closest thing I had created to a Landing page was my website. This was a much smaller project but also gave me a different feeling. I was designing it to drive her fans and soon-to-be fans to subscribe to her newsletter. I also planned to encourage her to write a new series that felt personal and described her writing process.

Enjoyable: Designing the color pallet, finding the right graphics and fonts, and putting them together.

Challenges: Connecting links and connecting a sign-up form through Canva.

The Content

The second step and the meat of the campaign is to create a body of 15 pieces of content or posts. I already had experience in creating reels and posts for my brand on Instagram, so it came naturally. What I had to figure out was how to turn ads into posts and carousels. They turned out to be easy to make. I still needed to finalize the editing process of the reel videos. The most challenging part about creating videos is making sure the audio quality is decent and has a quiet and appropriate background. The goal was to promote her books, brand personality, and newsletter to a larger demographic.

Enjoyable: Using accessories, props, and outfits I already had to match the aesthetic of the product (her books)

Challenges: background, noise, editing, lighting, making it less choppy, working with some of the current trends

The third and final step is to make and plan an email welcome series. It took me a few days to begin outlining. I ended up coming up with my finalized ideas right there on the spot. The goal was for it to follow the eyeline (similar to how I previously mentioned) and to give it a more elegant feeling. The fifth email I came up with was inspired by other artists/creators who made contests with their followers. I also aimed to make each section relatable to the people who will likely be reading her welcome series.

Enjoyable: Making collages with elements and photos and combining them with the color palette.

Challenges: Figuring out what to write for each stage of “awareness”.

My thoughts

This project allowed me to experiment and explore many new tools and techniques within the content marketing world. I learned how to plan consistently and how to re-create a brand into a series of different pieces of content. By using various platforms and formats it is easier to get a point across to a larger demographic of consumers.

My biggest takeaways:

  • You must “broaden your horizons”, as in you must experiment with a bunch of different tools or ideas to see what works.

  • It’s easy to get hung up on the creative appearance aspects- focus more on what the potential consumer/reader is more likely to think and initially do.

  • Make it simple and easy on the eyes: Many things we find the most pleasure in is simple to understand and easy to digest

  • Make it either unique or relatable: You want the customer to be interested in you for a reason. Such as the feelings your website or posts give them. You want them to feel a sort of connection to you and your brand goals.

Where to improve for next time:

  • do more digging to understand links and hyperlinks

  • make each design easy on the eyes and easy to access and gets the point across easily
